Tip Of The Week: Preventing and Escaping Dog Attacks
Today we are going to talk about a big problem that a lot of self defense sites tend to ignore. It is perhaps one of the most common and scariest attacks that you may run into. What I’m talking about are dog attacks. According to statistics:
- 4.7 million people are bitten by dog per year.
- 800,000 people per year have to get medical attention due to dog attacks.
- 44,000 facial injuries per year are due to dog attacks.
- 9 people have been killed as a result to dog attacks this year so far.
Dog attacks are probably one of the most common attacks that can happen to a person. Dog attacks are often very common amongst people in the mail industry. So if you ever find yourself in a scary dog attack situation, here are some tips on what to do.
Easiest ways to prevent dog attacks
- Stay perfectly still: It is best not to make any sudden movements if approached by a dog. Try to limit eye contact as well. Once the dog gets tired and begins to move away, slowly move to a safe place.
How to protect yourself in a Dog Attack
If you ever find yourself in a tough situation where a dog is actually attacking you, here are a few ways to leave the scuffle with as little damage as possible.
- Use barriers: Wrapping your arm or hand can shield your hand from major damage in a dog attack.
- Use tools: Using the right tool can immediately neutralize a dog attack quickly and efficiently. Here are a few extremely effective tools that we recommend:
a. Mace Dog Spray: Mace dog spray is actually a pepper spray designed specifically for defense in dog attacks. By simply spraying Mace Dog Spray in the face of a dog, you cane immediately neutralize an attack, and escape without damaging the dog. Warning: If you plan on using pepper spray as a device against dogs, please be sure to use a pepper spray specifically designed for dogs. If not, results may not be as effective. - Electronic Dog Repeller: These devices emit an ultrasonic pulse that is extremely discomforting to a dog. This device is perfect for mail carriers and will protect you against a dog up to 40 feet away. Click Here to View an Electronic Dog Repeller.
And there you have it. Use these methods, and you should have enough in your arsenal to leave a dog attack without a trip to your local hospital.
